Under 24 hours to go!

Thank you all so much for your support of Food for Thought :) We have come so far in so little time. And now, in about 24 hours, the campaign will be all over! Thank you for being a part of the Food for Thought story and for helping to ensure this game will exist!

After the campiagn closes I will update everyone explaining the process and timeline for what happens next. For now, I can announce our final stretch goal. I know this one is a long shot, but it is going to be quite expensive to produce...

By adding layers of cardboard to the player's diet boards, the food tokens won't be able to be knocked around during play! Each token space will be lower than the board around it, forming a sort of well for the tokens to sit in. The trick is that the 5 player boards that come with the game are double-sided (there are a total of 7 different boards for players to play with) so the player boards can't simply be double-layered, but triple-layered!

Hopefully we can get there, but either way, thanks so much for your continued support of the game and our campaign. I will update everyone again tomorrow - we'll meet again on the other side!

Greetings, gourmets!

It's hard to believe the campaign for Food for Thought is nearing its end! Thanks so much to all the backers who have joined us over the last day or so - and of course, thanks to everyone who has been here from day 1 (and every day in-between) :D

Another goal to stretch for!

It's a bit of a jump, but we have confirmed at least one more stretch goal for us to try and hit over the last couple of days of the campaign. The below image is a simple mock-up, but we hope to be able to print the food and shopping icons to the 12 cloth drawstring bags that store the tokens inside the game box. Of course, each bag will match the color of the tokens as well. This will help in the set up and pack up of your game! You could also keep the tokens in the bags as you play, simply taking what you want when you need it.

We are also looking into a cost-effective way to make the double-sided player boards double-layered on both sides. This has been asked for by a few backers and would be a great way to ensure the tokens aren't bumped around on your player boards on the table - giving each token a walled space to sit inside of. More news on this soon.

We are still thinking about other possible stretch goals. If needed, we can retroactively add these after the campaign should they seem feasible and our funding continues to grow :)

Thanks again everyone, and thanks so much for spreading the word. Food for Thought is such a fun game and we can't wait for it to be a feature of your gaming nights!

Will speak again, soon!

Final stretch goals in the works!
3 months ago – Fri, Aug 16, 2024 at 03:15:38 PM

Hello again, food lovers!

I am so flattered, thankful and excited to announce that we have passed the last (for now) stretch goal that will add silkscreen printing to both sides of all our deluxe wooden tokens! Thanks once again for everyone's support! With your help, we are making Food for Thought even yummier :)

This is only a speedy update to say hello to all the backers who have joined us over the last couple of days. If anyone has any questions, please ask, but you can also look back through any updates you may have missed.

I hope to announce some more stretch goals before the end of the campaign. We are working hard to determine what these will be, looking at what might be possible with our current and expected levels of funding :)

Have a great weekend - throw a frisbee, go on a nature walk, eat a delicious meal... or whatever it is that makes you feel balanced :)

Will speak again, soon!

Adding on more!

Hey everyone! Hope you are keeping well and were able to stretch your legs in the beautiful outdoors today :) Welcome to all new backers!

Another stretch goal has fallen!

We will now decorate the game box inside and out with art from Naomi Robinson! This will make your game look and feel even more delicious. Thanks so much for your continued support of the campaign - without you, none of these stretch goals could happen :)

The next stretch goal in our sights...

...Will be to add the silkscreen printed designs to both sides of the wooden tokens. This is a really important usability upgrade, but as it comes at a cost we have included it in our list of stretch goals... and it's coming up soon! Thanks again everyone!

What's next?

What would you like to see as a stretch goal? It looks as if there will be time to add a couple more to try and pass before the end of the campaign. We have already heard about the request for double-layer diet boards... what else would you like to see? We have asked the factory to give us some quotes for some ideas we have had, but comment below if you have any interesting ideas :)

Don't forget you can add-on other Grail Games titles!

If you would like to, you can "manage your pledge" via the campaign page and add on a number of our other games. (These will also be available in our post-campaign pledge manager). Forgive me some advertising time, but here is a quick overview of what is available.

Note that extra shipping costs (if required - sometimes your package weight threshold is not affected) will be determined and added to your order in the pledge manager.

If you aren't interested in hearing more about these games you can zoom down to the bottom of the update :)

Bottle Imp, a trick-taking game designed by Günter Cornett and originally released in 1995, is being brought back with a stunning new look. We are thrilled to be the English partner for this modern classic’s return!

Millions of Dollars, a negotiation and social deduction game designed by Jeremie Kletzkine and first released in 2016 is coming back with Grail’s help in an all-new second edition. The same great table talk and huge heists are still in the game, but the gameplay has been streamlined to create an easier to learn and play experience.

One Zero One was Grail's first ever production and it kicked off our well-known "Mike Line" of small square boxed games. It is for 2-players and is a kind of area-control duel that is reminiscent of early 80s computer programming. One Zero One, and its mini-expansion 101.1, have been out of print for a while and we are excited to be bringing it back into print.

Tango is designed by Matt Sims and David Harding, with art by Heiko Günther. It is a 2-player only trick-taking game that feels like a classic from the past. Simple to play, but with tense decisions, it may take two to tango but only one player will walk home with the roses!

For more info on any of these games, please check out our recent Kickstarter campaign for all four games.

In Snowcrest, you lead your village and its monastery towards enlightenment. Control a unique faction of priests, farmers, and laborers. Build structures, tend the barley fields, harvest juniper from the forest, present offerings, become lost in meditation, and uncover the secrets of a bygone age. Overcome the monstrous guardians of this knowledge and bring peace and prosperity to the snowfields.

I just got the first copy from the factory and made this unboxing video so you can see it :)

For more info on Snowcrest, please check out our recent Gamefound campaign for the game.

That's all for now - we will update everyone again soon! Thanks for continuing to support Food for Thought :)

One week to go!
3 months ago – Mon, Aug 12, 2024 at 02:23:25 PM

Greetings, gourmets!

We hope you had a great weekend and were able to treat yourself to something delicious! We have about a week left in the Food for Thought campaign and we are so glad to have you all on board :)

Another stretch goal falls!

Every copy of the game will now come with shopping basket tiles to help players keep track of the food items they have bought at the in-game store! As discussed a couple of updates ago, these tiles will help ensure everyone pays the right amount when shopping. The tiles' artwork is still being finished, but we hope to have these to show soon.

We have also posted the next two stretch goals!

  • $15,000(AUD) = Artwork on the inside of the box top and bottom! Not essential, but something we always try to add to our games. It just makes it look and feel so much nicer :)
  • $17,000(AUD) = Deluxe wooden tokens will have their screenprinted designs on the front AND back of each token. This will add a lot of usability to the game. Players with the nicer pieces will be able to tell immediately what the food item is from either orientation!

The game is already going to look great (I'm biased, I know), but hopefully we move past these stretch goals with enough time in the campaign to keep pushing the game's production even further into the stratosphere!

Have you looked deeper into the gameplay?

Don't forget we have the draft rule book posted on the campaign page, as well as a Tabletop Simulator mod so you can actually try a digital version of the game with friends. (Tabletop Simulator is available through Steam.) Here are the links again:

Food for Thought uses worker placement as the mechanism by which players decide on their turn what they will be doing (cooking/snacking/shopping/exercising etc). Some placement spots are on the main board (open to everyone), and some are located on each player's diet board (they're just for you).

Some spaces will be blocked as soon as a player takes them, others are open for everyone. The timing of when you decide to do the action you want to do is a fun puzzle to figure out as you play.

If anyone has questions about how the game plays, please ask away!

More news soon! Thanks for your support :)
